Andy Kurtzman has been director of the Scotland Community Health Clinic in Laurinburg, NC since 2012. The clinic has been recognized for top performing health outcomes for its patients with diabetes and hypertension. He has also become a moderately successful grant writer.
Prior to SCHC he worked at CareSouth Carolina managing their health education community outreach program to raise awareness and reduce risk factors for stroke and heart disease.
Andy served in the US Navy as a health administration officer. With 8 years active duty, including Operation Desert Storm, and then 15 years in the reserves, he retired as a Commander in 2009 after 23 years.
Andy grew up in Charleston, SC and then went to college and graduate school at George Washington University before joining the Navy. He has lived in Laurinburg, NC for the past 24 years. He is married to Ann and has two daughters. Andy is passionate about promoting a realistic healthy lifestyle to reduce risk for chronic disease. He stays active as a competitive swimmer, weekend bicycler, kayak paddler, and a banjo picker.
