About Us
In the spring of 1996, a group of clinic leaders gathered for their fifth annual conference, helmed by Dr. Don Lucey. But that year, the group decided they needed more than a conference: They proposed the creation of a formal association of clinics that could continue the work year-round and at a higher level. Their collective vision soon produced the North Carolina Association of Free & Charitable Clinics.
Today, the NCAFCC has grown into a comprehensive network of 69 free and charitable clinics dedicated to improving the health and well-being of uninsured patients in North Carolina. We have seen nearly 200,000 patients between our medical, behavioral, and dental clinics. At our free clinics, patients have received $189,400,000 in prescription medications, and our services have diverted hospital emergency department losses by more than $358,400,000. These numbers are a testament to the vital work of making health affordable. We are grateful to make such a marked impact on the health of deserving individuals and communities in North Carolina.
